The 2021 HSBC UK National Cross-country Series, Round 2 will take place at Monmouth’s Sunnybank farm, British Cycling can today confirm, over the weekend of July 2nd - 4th.

Entry on-line only via BC website; no paper entries or entries on the day.

There will be a few changes this season to ensure that the event can run safely under the Covid-19 guidance which we now all live by.  Many of these details are now standard practise in our day to day lives, and further details of these will be given in the rider info packs.  However, please note that the timetable is different from previous years.  Race times can be seen on the entry page, and please expect your designated practise session to be directly beforehand.

Please also note that due to the evolving situation we face, race regulations and schedules are subject to change at any point up to and including on the day.  Any changes will of course be communicated to riders.

For the first time ever mountain biking will arrive at Sunnybank Farm, Monmouth for an epic battle in the Welsh Border town. The course has a real old school feel and our course designer, fresh from working on the Tokyo Olympic course, has added a few surprises to keep even the top riders guessing as they make their way round the natural environment. Together with local guys John and Lynn they’ve set about creating a course from scratch.

Event organiser, Matt Williams, said:

“At Monmouth you’ll find a real old school XC course using the natural environment to it’s fullest. Fundamentally it’s a climbers course with some really nice natural single track descending down through the trees and onto open grassland sections with plenty of room for overtaking. On site we’ve been given a blank canvas to create a course suitable of a National event and thats what we’ve done"

The venue will also host all the usual facilities, promotional tents and food and drink vendors. Camping is also still available on site from the Friday to the Sunday.

Building on the success of Round 1

Round 1 saw a few surprises at Woody’s Bike Park in Cornwall, where some of the quickest Junior Men in the country caught and then swept through the field in the Elite, Junior and Expert race, leaving many of the established names in the UK trailing in their wake. The women’s racing also proved equally close with large fields competing for the top spots in all categories.

Across the weekend we also saw many of the top veterans turning back the clock with big performances in changing and challenging conditions and many of the under 16's taking on the hugely technical course with the sort of skill and panache that defied their years.
